PMI PBT Schedule 2019 - Schedule for Paper Based Test for PMP Certification Exam for Pune

Last date to enroll is the date before which you must enroll yourself in the exam. To get enrolled in the PMP® exam, you must have your application approved.

Therefore if you want to get enrolled in any of the above PBT exams, you should fill the application form, submit it and receive the approval before last date to enroll. For example – If you want to give PMP® Exam on 11th May, 2019, you should have your application approved before 6th April, 2019 to get enrolled.

Once you submit your application, PMI takes around a week to approve it. If your application is selected for audit, then consider around 20 to 30 days to complete audit formalities. In that case you may be able to take your paper based test only next month.

Pune will continue be one of the very few cities in the world where paper based test (PBT) is conducted every month. It is continuing for last 3 years. There is no other city in India where PMI hosts PBT for PMP® Certification Exam every month. Other cities get this event once a while. There are only few cities in the world, PBT is hold on such a frequency.

The other type of exam is Centre Based Test called CBT. Centre based test is basically a computer based test where candidate give exam on a computer. PMI prefers CBT and encourages candidates to take CBT but facilitate PBT where CBT centres are far and not easily approachable.

CBT and PBT both have some advantages and disadvantages. Let’s look at them:

Centre Based Testing (CBT)

This is primary type of testing method. PMI® has authorized designated prometric centres where PMP® Exam can be scheduled. To find nearest CBT centre and schedule your exam Click here.

Advantages of Centre Based Testing (CBT)

  1. CBT is conducted every day. Normally two to three slots available in a day. This provides more flexibility to PMP® aspirants to schedule their PMP® exam.
  2. Less waiting period for exam. You can schedule your exam as early as tomorrow if a slot is available.
  3. Shorter period to reschedule the exam. You have opportunity to reschedule your exam as late as 2 days before exam date. If cancellation date is less than 30 days, a fee of USD 70 will apply. If you are rescheduling before 30 days you can do so without attracting any fee. You cannot reschedule if less than 2 days are left. Also see Exam Scheduling Instructions.
  4. While giving exam, you can mark a question for review to revisit it later. System will give you a warning if you forget to answer any question and try to submit the exam. This will help reviewing all unanswered questions and answering all the questions before submission.
  5. Immediate result. As soon as you submit the exam, the result is shown on the screen and prometric centre will provide you detailed scoring sheet. The scoring sheet contains your overall proficiency.

Disadvantages of Centre Based Testing (CBT)

  1. You need to travel to nearest CBT centre if you do not live in a city that has CBT. I could not think of any other disadvantage except you need to spend time and money in travelling to nearest CBT centre.

Paper Based Testing (PBT)

PMI® organizes PBT to facilitate candidates who live far from CBT centre. Similar to CBT, you can find nearest PBT centre, PMP® Exam schedule on this centre and book your exam online. The link to schedule the exam is same – Click Here.

Advantages of Paper Based Testing (PBT)

  1. PBT may save your time and money you spend on travelling to nearest CBT Centre.

Disadvantages of Paper Based Testing (PBT)

It depends upon individual to consider following points as feature of PBT or disadvantages. I consider them disadvantages when I keep them against CBT.

  1. For PBT, you must book your exam at least 35 days in advance. You cannot reschedule your PBT within 35 days of your PMP® That means if less than 35 days are left, you cannot change date of your exam. In case your schedule changes during this 35 days waiting period and you cannot give exam, your exam fee will be forfeited. 35 days in today’s term is a considerable time. I have few candidates who could not give exam or gave without preparation as their employer sent them to other locations or some other reasons.
  2. You cannot mark anything on question paper. You need to write question numbers on scratch paper which you want to answer or review later.
  3. In case of PBT, PMI® promises to give result in 4 to 6 weeks while it is immediate in case of CBT (Computer Based Test). As such most of the people who attempted PBT, got their results in 2 to 3 weeks. This is not a disadvantage as such because it just waiting but if I get immediate result by investing some time & money in travelling, I prefer it.

Therefore main advantage of writing a PBT in Pune is saving travel to Mumbai. The disadvantage is risk of changing schedule due to personal/office conditions during 35 days of waiting time. Second, you need to wait for couple of weeks for your result.

Despite some disadvantages, I still feel, it is a great opportunity for Pune residents who want to avoid travel to Mumbai to take advantage of this facility.

Learn, prepare and give the exam.

Wish you all the best.
